Learn how to get noticed! Performance class is designed for the dancer looking to stand out in a group. If you want (or already have) a natural pizzazz as a dancer, you may be a good fit for the Performance Company.
Artistic Director, Lisa Henry, started the Performance Company in 2007. Jazz is the primary dance genre for the group but group dances will include modern, contemporary, acrobatics, variety arts and other forms of dance. Students accepted into performance company must register for at least one jazz dance technique class taught by Miss Lisa.
Students will learn group dances in jazz and will also have the chance to perform in solos, duets and trios under many genres of dance. As a student in the Performance Company you will have the opportunity to choreograph and perfect your own dances, learn performance skills and perform in our community each year.
Additionally, Performance Company will compete multiple times per year including two out-of-town competitions each season.
Every year we assess interested dancers to determine how many groups are needed. Dancers will not automatically move up after a certain age, rather a dancer moves up when she progresses and is able to handle the next level. Placement in the various levels is determined based upon the following criteria:
- Level of technical ability
- Turns, posture, pointed feet, traveling combinations, natural rhythm
- Level of flexibilty
- Rib cage, feet, hips, legs, back
- Level of performance ability
- Smile, charisma, showmanship
- Classroom behavior
- Dancer desires improvement and can handle critique
- Dancer has technical skills appropriate to her age group
Summer Class Expectations:
All Performance Company dancers are expected to register for summer jazz dance technique classes taught by Lisa Henry, based on placement level. Summer Intensive participation is expected of ALL Performance Company dancers each year. If you are not yet in Performance Company, you must be invited by a Twin Cities School of Dance teacher to be eligible.
